Prayers for Covenant School

Our community is devastated by what happened Monday at Covenant School in Nashville. Our hearts go out to the families of the faculty, staff, and students who have suffered this tragedy. Words are insufficient and explanations evade us as we try to make sense of it all, but we serve a God who is sufficient in every way and is crying with us. We are reminded of these verses from Psalm 34:

The LORD pays attention to the godly

            and hears their cry for help.

            But the LORD opposes evildoers

            and wipes out all memory of them from the earth.

The LORD is near the brokenhearted;

            he delivers those who are discouraged.

            The godly face many dangers,

            but the LORD saves them from each one of them.

Evil people self-destruct;

            those who hate the godly are punished.

            The LORD rescues his servants;

            all who take shelter in him escape punishment.

(Psalm 34:15–16, 18–19, 21–22)

For our mid-week gatherings tomorrow night at 6:30pm:

  • • We will be dedicating time in our individual classes for prayer to lift up the families from Covenant School
  • • In the auditorium, Brian Sheppard will be addressing how we can respond in a life-giving way in moments like these and how we might address these challenges with our children and grandchildren
  • • Elders and ministers will be available in the Front Lobby and Back Lobby for anyone who would like to pray or just talk.

In addition, our Family Counseling Center is available to anyone who needs that service. For more information, please contact them at 615-824-6727.
